COMMUNITY PROFILE

O’Reilly Development Company purchased land in northern Kansas City, Missouri, for a senior living community called The Barrymore. The development is conveniently located just south of Interstate 435 and east of Interstate 29 in Kansas City. The continuum of care senior community is positioned as the premier full-service senior living option for the residents of northern Kansas City.

The community consists of 100 independent living units, 46 assisted living units, and 18 memory care units with full community services and amenities. All buildings are fully self-sustaining but benefit from some shared amenities that enhance services for all.

The 100 independent living units comprise 17 studio apartments, 50 one-bedroom units, and 33 two-bedroom units. The independent units are housed in a lodge-style building consisting of community common areas, offices, a commercial kitchen, a beauty shop, and exercise and social rooms. All units will have fully equipped kitchens and include washer and dryer units.

The independent living residents enjoy the freedom of independent living as a step away from homeownership, before any higher-level care needs arise. They benefit from additional services as requested and needed, which can be easily provided through joint management and operations.

The 46 assisted living units offer private apartments for seniors requiring hands-on personal care services. It consists of 25 studio units, 17 one-bedroom units, and 4 two-bedroom units.

The assisted living services meet the needs of physically frail seniors and provide a level of care for those unable to make a pathway to safety.

The 18 memory care units are designed for the safety and comfort of cognitively impaired residents, including walk-in showers, height-appropriate fixtures such as toilets and sinks, and locking cabinets to protect residents from harm. The common areas feature an open design, including dining and living rooms. Life stations designed to engage through triggering memories of tasks ingrained throughout their life are also included, such as nursery care and nurturing, wardrobe to promote grooming habits, and a work station for a sense of purpose and accomplishment. Nurse stations serve as a hub for care partners and nurses to conduct care updates and handle paperwork.

The memory care portion provides fully licensed care for Alzheimer’s and Dementia residents, including all meals, life-safety equipment and notifications, nursing assistance, and medication distribution, to name a few.
